Eight months ago I challenged myself to exercise 30 Minutes for 100 Days. I had an 85% success rate. Considering my "regular life" often got in the way of my exercise time, 85% is pretty successful indeed. Next I challenged myself to "Take Up a Notch - Sixty 4 Ninety". Length of time and intensity both increased. My success rate was about 70%. My HDL, LDL, cholesterol, blah blah numbers were lower. I was physiologically healthier. I lost 7 lbs and probably increased my lean muscle mass as well. My family ate better and exercised more. I was the model of a healthy 50 year old woman.
I had been working out and eating healthier nearly every day for 190 days. I expected to have physical changes like those people on the infomercials. Yet I had only maintained a 4 lb weight loss. I looked a little better but I also was tired and I hurt. That's when I stopped everything to reevaluate the process. In all honesty, I was discouraged.
Then I heard actress Mindy Kaylig defend her size on a talk show. She said, "It takes a lot of effort to look like a normal chubby woman." Yes it does Mindy my new inspirational friend! If I watched more TV I might even watch that stupid sitcom you are on cuz I like what you said so much!
So "this" is all about the effort. The effort it takes to get up and get moving when you'd rather drink coffee, read the paper or peruse social media. The effort it takes to challenge yourself with new "fun" ways to workout. The effort to give your workouts 100% of everything you have that day, and the effort to forgive yourself when some days are better than others. The effort to conjure up, purchase and create healthy meals that your whole family will eat - then do that over and over every day.
Mostly its the effort to exercise the gifts of health and capability when your lazy alter-ego only wants to lay on the couch with a bag of chips and the remote control. (That Bitch can be pretty convincing!)
