I was thinking today about the "rules" I have for myself concerning this challenge. I have to do something cardiovascular for no less than 30 minutes every day. There are a few exceptions, including illness or a travel day that starts early and ends late, when I will allow myself to just walk for 30 minutes. My challenge to myself is to become more fit and healthy (I consider giving myself a break occasionally to be healthy). I have been doing interval training on the treadmill on some days and endurance on others and bands/bodyweight workouts four days a week.
What my workouts consist of isn't the point of this blog (unless I happen to do something spectacular, then of course I'll mention it!). My purpose is to create a habit of exercise. There are women in my family who have lived well into their 90s. I plan to be one of them and I want to be fit enough to be independent til the very end.
My grandfather exercised every day and prided himself on his flat stomach. He used to have an old exercise bike. I asked him one day how long he rode it. His answer was that he didn't know. He got on, said the rosary and when he was finished, he got off. The next day after his bike ride he came up from the basement and said, "20 minutes!"
He was a good man.
