A woman working on a computer exclaimed, "Horsefeathers!"
"Uh, did you just say 'Horsefeathers'?"
"Yes I did. My grandpa used to say it so now my sister and I say it. It's better than the alternative."
"Yeah, I'm kinda a truck driver myself."
"I'm a sailor."
'Hogwash' is another fine expletive. I challenged some friends to use it in a sentence. I failed the challenge in a lame attempt to use it at Target. But one Friend used it appropriately in a sentence with a customer on the phone! I still owe her a bottle of wine.
I have another friend who is a seasoned swear-er on the tennis court. It was all fun and games when she lived in the "circle of trust" but when she moved across the country her colorful language was not well received at all. She has, of course, won her new teammates over with her charm and wit
My personal favorite is the F-word. There is just something about the harshness of the consonants that works out my frustration or perfectly makes my point. I've been making an attempt to curb my cussing in the last few years with substitute words like FFFFUUDGGE! or Ssshhhhhugar-french fries! (I know! WTF is that?) It's a better alternative in large crowded venues when other people's children are nearby. But quite frankly, it's kinda embarrassing.
For some reason I recently started saying "god! bless. america!" The nice folks in Orlando must think I'm an especially patriotic parent.
When my youngest daughter was two she stood at the top of the stairs with her big blond hair and her self-chosen floral top and shorts and said, "dammit mom! dammit!". I have no idea where she got that because it's never been in my repetroir but I knew if I laughed or encouraged her at all she'd be saying 'dammit' where ever we went. She's not much of a swear-er now but my two older kids learned well.
I have a friend who hates cussing. There's something about people who hate cussing that makes me want to swear in their presence. I find myself dropping all variations of the f-bomb in our conversations. It's a terrible thing!
May your day be Sofa King great!
