Keep Calm

Self Improvement takes a LOT of time!  Spent two hours in the hair chair getting my grays covered and my split ends trimmed.  Visited the dermatologist - all clear thank-you - chatted extensively about Ebola and it's impact.  The new protocol at the Clinic is to ask everyone who signs in if they have been to Liberia.  If the answer is yes, the staff is supposed to implement certain measures with the patient, none of which are they equip to handle.  I can tell you I left that office (remember, it was just the dermatologist office - not even a family practice doc, pediatrician or emergency room!) thinking that I am going to stay healthy at all costs.

The nightly news covered nothing but Ebola and the nurse who visited Cleveland then with a slightly elevated temperature and the blessing of the CDC flew back to Dallas on a commercial plane.  Now, the only people who have contracted the disease are nurses who came in contact with fluids of the patient (from Liberia) who died in Dallas.  None of this patient's casual contact or family members show signs of the disease.  This is good news for all the people on the plane from Cleveland to Dallas - and any passengers on that same plane after it left Dallas for where ever it goes next.  It is not good news for nurses and medical staff.

It is very important to keep all this in perspective.  We adults have to keep calm, be reasonably cautious and make sure we inform rather than scare our kids.  Let them live their lives and do their homework while we monitor the world heath situation.

It's always something isn't it?
