5 Easy Steps to Start a BlogThere are a few simple steps that you will need to complete to start your blog:
- Choose your blogging platform
- Secure a domain name and get hosting in place with Bluehost
- Configure your blog
- Design your blog
- Start creating useful content that serves readers
I follow a guy on FB who offers tips on how to create a successful blog. His name is Darren. He lives in Australia. Oddly, half of the bloggers I "follow" live in Australia.
There is another Tracey Mackay who lives in Australia. I'm pretty sure her life is waaaayyy more interesting than mine. We probably don't have a lot in common except I imagine that her fellow Aussies pronounce her last name the same way I do: MAC-EYE, like some sort of gruesome offering off the McDonalds menu.
Darren's list of 5 Easy Steps to Start a Blog are, in fact, not "easy". For starters, I didn't really choose a blogging platform so much as 'Weebly' just happened to be the least complicated.
Do not be fooled: securing a Domain Name is a big fucking responsibility. Not to be glossed over! It's like naming a child. You have to consider all the possibliities. It will never go away. You have to like it enough to yell it up the staircase a ba-zillian times in your lifetime. In the end I chose to use TraceyMackay because I couldn't think of anything better ... and so that Cool Australian Tracey Mackay couldn't have it. Though, I really don't think Cool Aussie Tracey would ever use her own name. I'm sure she would come up with something infinitely more exceptional. I can't even give you a good example of her Domain Name right now because I'm so intimidated by her perceived excellence!!
Moving on: Configuring and designing the look of the blog and actually naming the blog is aways a work in progress. I really have no idea what I'm doing or what the design buttons on the left side of the page are for ... though it's on my list of things to figure out one day.
What trips me up is #5: Creating Useful Content that Serves the Reader. Well no shit Darren! If I had Useful, Interesting content I wouldn't be looking up tips to create a better blog on the internet! I have Nothing! I'm the 'Seinfeld' of blogging. My only hope is to be mildly entertaining with an occassional wiff of inspiration and wisdom. More specifically I hope to be Useful, Interesting, Wise and Witty while I'm actually sitting at the computer trying to write instead of in the middle of the night or some other inopportune time!
But I'll try.
I'll try to think of Useful Content to Serve the Reader. You all may not hear from me for a while...
(Make it a great day My Friends!)
